Sean Dunlap serves as executive director of the Wayne County Economic Development District, a governmental agency established in 1988 as a means of promoting the area’s business potential to companies looking to grow and expand into the region. Dunlap, who became director in 2011, has an extensive career in community relations, which has included serving as a newspaper editor and publisher, radio and television reporter and anchor in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. He has served in various civic capacities through the years, including as an economic development board member, a member of and spokesperson for several chambers of commerce, and a member and past president of groups including Rotary, Kiwanis, Optimist and Lions clubs. He serves as a member of the Waynesboro Public Housing Authority, the Wayne County Local Emergency Planning Committee, the Wayne County Emergency-Food and Shelter Program, the Multi-County Community Service Agency, the Mississippi Economic Council and the Mississippi Economic Development Council. He also serves as deputy director of the Rail Authority of East Mississippi, a governmental agency that is working to re-establish rail service with the Mississippi Gulf Coast as an economic driver for the regional economy. He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama in Mobile and has taken part in economic development training and continuing education through the University of Southern Mississippi.

The Rail Authority of East Mississippi is working to establish rail service to the Gulf Coast through the construction of 56 miles of track between Waynesboro and Lucedale, Mississippi.  Member counties of the rail authority include: Wayne, Lauderdale, Clarke, Greene, George, and Jackson Counties in Mississippi.
